Glitter Toes for Cheap

Glitter Toes seem to be all the rage lately. My sister graduated from cosmetology school and shared with me a way to do Glitter Toes at home for a fraction of the price. Are you ready for this?? :) Here is what you will need:

You will need a base coat, top coat, color coat and the secret is a bottle of "Stripe Rite". Stripe right is available from Sally's (or I'm sure any beauty supply store). At the Sally's I went to they were located on the bottom shelf under all the nail polish. Stripe Rite costs just about $4 a bottle. They come in EVERY color you can imagine...even neon! Buy a Stripe Rite color that is a close match to your fingernail paint polish color. (purple on the left and silver on the right)

Nail Polish color brand names do not matter.

After applying a base coat, apply the nail polish as you would normally do.
This is one coat of the Walgreens Silver nail polish. Since it is a cheaper polish, 2 coats would be better then just one.

After your polish dries, then next step is the "Stripe Rite". Stripe Rite is meant to be used to make decorations on top of the nail. You will find the brush is very thin and long. In order to cover the whole nail in the Stripe Rite glitter, you will need to move the brush around a lot and using the thin brush sideways works as well. **NOTE: open the bottle of Stripe Rite and check the brush BEFORE you buy it. Make sure the brush is straight. The bottle of Silver I bought had a brush that had curled in the bottle when it was shipped and it was harder to control then my purple one was.

Finally, finish with a top coat.

So here is the end results of the Silver:

Isn't it amazing how they "pop" with the glitter? So cute!

And here is the purple version:
I have had a lot of people comment to me "I love your glitter toes, they are so cute!" And a few time people have asked how much I've paid.

The difference between this version of glitter toes and professionally done (other then the price) is that this method is easy to take off with nail polish remover. Professionally they use gel and they have to cure it. This means you have to file it off, or pay to have it filed off to remove it. This version comes off with nail polish remover. (Straight acetone from a beauty store works best, but normal remover also works, it just takes longer)

Having the gel method does mean that it will not chip. IF and when the non-gel method chips, you can re touch it with your Stripe Rite. I have also done this to fill in growth if I've worn them for a long time.

I love this method because I can change the colors more often, it's easy to remove, it looks great, and 1 bottle of Stripe Rite will last through a lot of "glitter toes"! I've used the purple one 6 times and haven't made a dent in the amount of glitter in the bottle.

You can even coordinate with sisters or friends on who is buying which colors and rotate the colors among each other. Now that's Thrifty! :)
