Our Survivor Night

Last night I was watching the first episode of "Survivor, Redemption Island" with my family.  We watched all the way until Tribal Council started.......and the power goes out!!! ARRGH!!!  (I watched it this morning online, yay for the internet!)

We had our own episode of Survivor last night.  We had a fairly small snow storm come through, but it was accompanied by a TON of wind.  The power was out from about 7:50pm until 1:20am.  I learned a few things last night that I wanted to share:
  • Our lives revolve WAY too much around electronics
  • Power outages make kids hyper
  • A .99 package of glow sticks are fun.... but 3 packages are awesome!!!
  • A Lego castle with a glass candle "bonfire" in the middle is way cool
  • Laptops can be used as makeshift flashlights until you find the real ones
  • Old school corded phones come in handy..... and I don't talk to my grandma enough. :)
  • Glad I knew where flashlights, candles and matches were at
  • Extra blankets were very nice to have since the furnace was out for 5 1/2 hours
This experience got me thinking about Emergency Kits.  When I find deals on stuff that you could put in your Emergency Kit, I will file it under Emergency Kit in case you might want to stock up.
