Smith's (Kroger) Grocery Trip

I went to my local Smith's this weekend armed with a handful of coupons.  I wanted to share what I got and show you all how using coupons and online deals that I post can save you a ton of money.

So here's a list of what I got:
  • 3 Boxes of Captain Toast Crunch (plus $1 off purchase of 3 GM cereals)
  • 3 Boxes of Frosted Cheerios (which taste like Lucky Charms minus the marshmallows) (+$1 off 3 GM cereals coupon)
  • 4 Totinos pizzas ($1 off purchase of 4 Totinos pizzas)
    • These were on a Daytona buy 10 get $2.00 back in register rewards deal, so I got a $2 register reward at the end of my transaction.
  • 2 Boxes of Kelloggs Fruit Loops (50% off sale plus I used a $1.50 coupon off 2)
  • 4 packages of Idaho Potatoes (FREE after 4 $1 off coupons I got at the Idaho Potato Bowl in December)
  • 1 Gallon of milk (FREE after the coupon I posted about HERE with purchase of 3 breakfast items)
  • 3 cases of Coke Zero (FREE after using 3 coupons for free 12 packs I got from MyCokeRewards that I posted about HERE.
  • I could have gone back through the line and gotten another box of Fruit Loops for FREE with my register rewards, but I didn't have time.  I'm doing that today. :)
The Smith's cereal deal runs through tomorrow.

Kroger Stores reward cards

Just a little FYI for people that might be traveling and buying groceries while out of town or out of state.

Kroger stores all use the same rewards programs.  Meaning, if you are on vacation and you need to shop King Soopers (or any other Kroger brand store) and you don't have a King Soopers card, don't worry....your Smith's Rewards card will work.

While we were in Moab, UT and Denver, CO on recent vacations we shopped Kroger stores and our Smith's Reward card worked fine.  We didn't even know we were in a "Kroger store" until I noticed they had Kroger brand cheese.  We used our card and got the discounted rate on our groceries.

Smith's Rewards Changes

Smith's has made some changes to their Smith's Reward program so now you can "save up" your points until you reach $1.00 off per gallon.

Savings are as follows:
$100= 0.10 off per gallon
$200= 0.20 off per gallon
$300= 0.30 off per gallon
$400= 0.30 off per gallon
....all the way up to $1.00 off.

You can use your points right away, or "save up" for $1.00 off per gallon.  Points will no longer expies.
  • Every purchase = Fuel Rewards!!! In the past shoppers only got fuel rewards when they reached $30, $60 or $90 increments. Now, every dollar you spend goes towards fuel savings! (Shoppers will no longer get $0.05, $0.10 or $0.15 off fuel rewards when they reach those increments. Instead, every dollar spent adds up to savings!)
  • Choose what rewards you want! If you would rather get the "Gold Envelope" you can opt to receive the rewards coupon instead of fuel rewards or you can create a mix between the two. No need to keep track of points yourself - any points not used for fuel savings are automatically sent to shoppers in the gold envelope as long as they reach at least 500 points!
You can check out the new program:

To promote this new savings program EVERYONE who makes ANY purchase between Wed. 4/13 and Tues. 4/19 will AUTOMATICALLY get 200 Points added to their account! This = $0.20 per gal. of gas!!!

In addition, watch for double, triple and even quadruple point sale items at Smiths for the next few weeks!

Smith's March to Savings starts today

Smiths is doing their March to Savings event.  You get $50 off instantly with the purchase of 10 participating items.  Here are some of the featured deals.  All prices are after buying 10 items:

Powerade .39
American Beauty 16 oz pasta $0.49
Ronzoni Pasta 12-14 oz $0.49
Bumble Bee Tuna 2.5 oz pouch $0.49
2 liter Coke product $0.89
Sunny Delight 64 oz $0.89
Capri Sun 10 count $1.49
Nabisco crackers or Chips Ahoy $1.99

They also have a deal where if you purchase 4 boxes of Kellogg's cereal for $2.50 each ($10 total) you get 2 gallons of milk FREE!

Here's the sinario I used:
$10.00    4 packages of Fruit Loops (my FAVORITE)
$4.40       total for 2 gallons of milk
$4.00       total for 2 packages of Chips Ahoy (part of the 10 mix and match)
$18.40 BEFORE coupons.......
-$2.00 for a coupon "save $1 w/purchase of 1 pack of Nabisco cookies and 1 gallon milk" I had 2 coupons
-$4.40 free milk from Kelloggs
-$2.00 for a coupon "save $1 off purchase of 2 boxes of Kelloggs" I had 2

GRAND TOTAL: $10 for 4 packages of Fruit Loops, 2 gallons of milk and 2 packs of Chips Ahoy.  That averages $1.25 each item!

People were stocking up on Powerade by the case.  Multiple carts stocked full of cases of powerade.  The pasta was pretty picked over (I bought a ton of small shells, I like them better then elbow, they are funner to eat.) ?  lol

The Ronzoni pasta was also a popular item, lots of women grabbing that stuff.

I didn't see anything else that was flying off the shelves.  But remember if you do go and they are out of what you want, GET A RAIN CHECK!!  I used a rain check today on Peanut Butter that was on sale last week for $0.99.  I tried 3 different times and ended up getting a rain check on the last day.  I wish I would have gotten a rain check every time I went it.  They put a limit of 10 on my rain check. :(  I could have gotten 3 rain checks worth 30 cans of peanut butter.  Oh well, I'm happy I at least got 10.

Happy Shopping!

$5 Smiths credit from Pillsbury

The annual Pillsbury Bake-off is happening right now.  You can click HERE to enter a unique recipe for a chance to win....wait for it.....*pinkey goes to mouth like Dr. Evil....ONE....MILLION....DOLLARS! :)

Okay, what are the chances right?  Here's what qualifies this deal as "Thrifty"....if you submit a recipe, you will get a $5 credit on your Smith's (or any Kroger affiliate) shoppers card!!  I did this deal 2 days ago, got the credit and used it today for groceries at Smith's.
  1. Click THIS LINK to Pillsbury.
  2. **Make sure you use the same address that is associated with your Shoppers Card or you won't get the credit!  I had to call Pillsbury and correct my address....trust me, I'm saving you the hassle.
  3. Submit your recipe.
  4. After you submit your recipe, you will see a Smith's icon that says "Claim $5 coupon". Click on it and it will be loaded onto your account digitally.
It's that easy!

On a side note, I went to Smith's today, I used the $5 Pillsbury Bake-off $5 credit, 2 $3 Daytona coupons from earlier this week and a ton of other coupons and spent $32 for a $78 order.  PLUS I got another $3 Daytona coupon for buying 10 Fruit Snacks, and another $3 coupon from General Mills printed out at the register!  I then made my way to the electronics section to pick up a Wii Nun-chuck (that my boys tell me we NEED....whatever).  They are NEVER on sale, so I grabbed one for $19.99 and use both $3 credits so I got $6 off the Nun-chuck!

See, it does pay to be Thrifty!  :)

Strawberries at Costco

With Valentines coming up in a few days, I thought I would share the deal I found at Costco today.  It's nothing "spectacular" but Costco has 2 pound packages of strawberries for $5.00.  That's $2.50 a pound, and for this time of year PLUS it being Valentines and early in the growing season, I thought this was a great deal.

We bought a 2 lb pack and I came home and made a dozen into chocolate dipped strawberries! YUM!!

Buy Low, Provo UT, Wed....Chicken $1.18/pound

Are you sick of hearing about Chicken yet?  Just one more thing....

So, here's the deal with the $1.18/pound boneless skinless chicken breast.
It's at Buy Low in Provo WEDNESDAY 1/26 ONLY, "While supplies last", family pack or larger (no 40 lb minimum) and it's fresh not frozen.  Are you thinking of the Carl's Jr. commercial right now?  I am....lol
If you want to to guarantee that you get some chicken call 801-812-2000 to pre-order.

If you don't want to commute for your Chicken, the Macey's deal at $1.28 is an AWESOME deal.  This one is off the charts, but it's also out of my "save money" zone.  It's not worth my commute to go to Buy Low.  I do like that you can pre-order it though!
