Frosting Recipe

I figured a lot of people might be making Valentines cookies this week and since I often get asked for my Cream Cheese Frosting recipe, I decided to re-post it....(I know my sister is going to call me this week, so I'm preempting her asking me with this post.) ☺

So I'm calling this "thrifty" because it's cheaper then canned frosting. :)

Actually, I just REALLY HATE canned frosting. Homemade frosting is so easy, makes a lot, lasts forever and tastes so much better then canned. Truth be told I do have a few cans of canned chocolate frosting in my storage. My excuse is that I decorate cakes, and in a pinch chocolate frosting is easier to color black then starting with white frosting that turns many shades of gray before you hit black. Plus, it tastes better then the vanilla flavored canned frosting.

So here is "Michelle's Famous Cream Cheese Frosting" recipe:
1 8 oz brick of Cream Cheese
1 stick of margarine (1/2 cup) (You could use butter, but it's more expensive, I always use margarine)
1 teaspoon Vanilla extract
1/2 teaspoon Almond extract (optional)
1 2 lb bag of powdered sugar
Milk to thin to consistence

Beat cream cheese and margarine till smooth.
Add Vanilla and Almond extract
Slowly add 2 lb bag of powdered sugar
Add milk as needed to thin frosting
-Store in an airtight container in fridge. I have never had frosting go bad. It stores FOREVER.

That's it! Give it a try, it's delicious!

  1. I am confused about the "cube" of margarine. Is that the same amount as a "stick" of margarine?
