I purchased a Cricut machine and a few cartridges a month or so ago and they were really cluttering my craft table. I wanted to store the cartridges on a shelf, but I couldn't find anything that would work. I started to look for scrap wood at Home Depot so I could build one.....then I remembered this little beauty my grandma gave me when she was cleaning out her basement.
I told her my boys wouldn't like the hearts on it, but she wouldn't take no for an answer. So it was in my "donate" pile. I saved it from my donate pile because I suddenly had big plans for this little shelf.
I had the idea to hang it upside down and use the underside supports as "book ends" for my cartridges. I measured it and they fit perfectly!

So I painted it a fun bright green color that would go with my black framed magnet board above my craft table. I painted it with "Kiwi" color acrylic paint and finished it with a clear gloss spray paint. The plan was to spray paint it but I couldn't find a color I liked. So I invested $1.87 and bought a bottle of acrylic paint.
I used my Cricut to make a few vinyl decals to spice it up a little. ;)
And I cut a large flower to go over the top of the upside down heart cut out.
I also added 2 brass hooks on the underside of the shelf to hang the cutting mats. Office binder clips were used to hang the mats off the hooks.
Total out of pocket cost: $1.87 for paint. I had everything else.

ReplyDeleteI get lots of "donations" too. It's impossible to say no!
ReplyDeleteThanks! I always feel bad turning down things my grandma wants to give me. I figure it makes her happy and I'll just donate it or throw it away when I get home. :)
ReplyDeleteI love your idea of hanging the Cricut mats.
ReplyDeleteThanks Amy! The 12X12 was in my way on the table, but the 12X24 was starting to bend because I had it standing against a wall. Now I just need to find what I'm looking for to store my vinyl....:)
ReplyDeleteYou have completely inspired me - my Cricut stuff was all over the place, making me crafty insane ... but now, yay! Organized!!! Thanks for the idea! (Mine's not adorable cute like yours, but at least it's organized:))
